A lovely chryselephantine pair of figures from the Art Deco period
The present Art Deco pair of children is the work of the Hungarian artist and sculptor Alexandre Kéléty (1918-1940). The heads of the chryselephantine figures are carved of ivory and the bodies and accessories are made from cold-painted bronze adorned with golden accents. The children’s clothes as well as single beautiful details, like the cap and the girl's doll, are particularly charming.
The work bears the artist's signature ‘Kelety’ and 'Etling Paris' on the marble base. It is in good condition, showing light wear due to age. The head of the boy shows a small hair line. The height of the work, including the base is, 16.3 cm.
Alexandre Kéléty (1918-1940)
Alexandre Kéléty studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse and then moved to Paris to enlarge upon his knowledge. He turned to the modern art and became a major exponent of the Art Deco. Between the wars, he exhibited at the Paris Salon, which helped him to a large degree of popularity. (cko)
