Description
Two early 1/2 plate 19th C.ambrotypes of a Cuban couple of the Colonial period. The lady is identified as Isabel Hernandez y Rodriguez, married to Cosme de la Torriente, and matriarch of a prominent Cuban family. The gentleman may be Cosme de la Torriente, or possibly Isabel's father. Both images appear to have been made from painted portraits of their subject. Photographs are each housed in original embossed leather over wood cases with hook and eye hinges, flocked purple velvet liners. Condition very good, with some craquelure of photo surface. Each case 4 3/4" x 6" when closed.
