The Aborigines of Southern Africa with copious extraxts from the best authors , first edition , engraved frontispiece by C.J.Grant, closed tear to f.3, some light soiling, broadside for 'The Real Aztecs - Maximo and Bartola' exhibition in Exeter (1856) loosely inserted, contemporary half calf with original printed wrapper bound-in (small tear to front cover with slight loss), lightly rubbed & scuffed, [Mendelssohn II, p.565], 8vo, Chapman, Elcoate, and Company, 1847. Scarce work sometimes attributed to contributor Dr Knox whose lecture on The Bosjesmans "first introduced [these extraordinary people] to the metropolis of England" on 17 May 1847 at Exeter Hall. Other contributors include Professor Lichtenstein, James Backhouse and Henry Mithune, and the text provides a vocabulary of the Bush people as well as a Êtalogue of Curiosities' listing over 180 items.
