Complete run of the underground newspaper published in 12 issues from September 20, 1966, to February 1968 in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco. Allen Cohen (1940-2004), the editor during the paper's most vibrant period, and Michael Bowen, the art director, were among the founders of the publication. Ron and Jay Thelin, owners of The Psychedelic Shop at 1535 Haight Street, were the financial backers and sometime managing editors of the periodical. The first issue is called P.O. Frisco ("P.O." stood for "Psychedelphic Oracle") which lasted for a single issue, under the editorship of Dan Elliot and Richard Sassoon.The paper wound up satisfying no one due to divisions between those involved in production, and the Thelin brothers threatened to terminate their financial support unless the paper was completely reinvented. Thus there was a second Vol. I, No. 1. The dynamic color covers began with Number 6, and the different printings may be identified by the variation in the colors. A complete run of the newspaper, such as this, with the variant printings, is very rare, and possibly unique to the market. Provenance: The Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street. With a sheet of letterhead from the shop signed by proprietor Jay Thelin.

Some minor darkening and wear to the paper, as common, but very good or better, a rare run of this significant and influential underground newspaper.
