Description
Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "H. MYERS," Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory, Baltimore, MD, circa 1825, nicely-potted, ovoid jar with footed base and squared rim, decorated with a boldly-brushed leafy garland extending completely around its circumference. Shoulder impressed with "H. MYERS" mark above an x-shaped stamped. Made at the Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory, owned by merchant, Henry Myers, and operated by New-York-trained potter, Henry Remmey and his son, Henry Harrison Remmey. Rim chips. Two minor base chips. Two in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder, one of which includes a smooth pieces of adhered clay. A few short, faint lines to base. Two very faint surface lines to underside. H 7 3/4".
