Eduard Schleich I (1812-1874)
Eduard Schleich I began the studies of historical painting at the age of 15 years at the Academy of Munich. He broke up his studies soon after and started teaching himself by copying the old masters. During his extensive hikes through Bavaria, Franconia and Tyrol he found his inspiration for his landscape motifs. He was a close friend of Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885). Eduard Schleich I is well known for his light fulfilled nature sections of the upper Bavarian lake areas, and he is seen as the originator of the landscape school of Munich. The painter died at the age of 62 in 1874 in Munich. (cru)
