This elephant’s ceremonial brass or copper chain link body decoration features a number of reticulated pressed metal discs depicting an elephant within a flower blossom. Bordering the discs are fan-shaped charms with tiny bells. The entire covering has been separated into six different pieces. Such decorations are a common sight in South Asian countries where elephants are richly decorated head to toe for festivals.
The metal shows signs of tarnish and oxidation and some discs and charms may be missing. In addition, sections of discs have become separated. The entire covering has been separated into six pieces and reassembly has not been attempted. Note: this item is quite heavy. The dimension of each disc is 1 ¾ in. square.
