India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze figure of the sacred bull Nandi shown reclining and with openwork body in the form of tear drop shaped rope with cowrie shell patterns in the middle; the hump is decorated and the head of the bull wears a headdress. 4.6 kg, 40.5cm (16"). From an old London collection, formed in the 1980s.
