A pigskin rectangular travelling case with silver fittings by Asprey & Co., London 1953 (coronation mark), one side with three silver topped glass bottles, two jars, two brushes and comb each engine turned and engraved with a crest, three leather boxes and easel mirror, a steel button, scissors and nail file, the other side with straps for clothing, the case stamped for Asprey, the case and protective outer case stamped R.S.G.C-S , 34.5cm (13 1/2in) wide This is the crest for SMITH in the arms of the Revd. Gilbert Smith-Rewse, sometime Rector of South Emham, Suffolk. Lt.-Col. Richard Sydney Grenville Close-Smith (1910-1973) was the son of Major Thomas Close Smith and the Hon. Caroline Mary Elizabeth Morgan-Grenville. In turn her mother was the daughter of Richard Plantagenet Campbell Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos.
