Description
Egyptian, Late Period, ca. 664-342 BCE. A bronze figurine representing the goddess Mut. Mut, a name that means "mother" in the Egyptian language, was the wife of Amun who was considered the most important of the gods in Thebes. She is depicted wearing the double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt as well as the royal vulture headdress. Queen of the goddesses and a primal deity, she is often associated with the primordial waters from which all originated. Rulers of Egypt always supported worship of Mut in order to affirm their own authority and right to rule via their association with the goddess Mut. Custom display stand. Measurements for figurine itself 3-1/4" H. Stand adds 2".

Provenance: Ex-private Boulder, CO collection; purported to be from a deaccessioned museum collection in the 1970s-1980s.
