Description
Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664-332 BCE. Large solid bronze statuette of the god Osiris, depicted in the traditional mummiform pose, his arms protruding from the enveloping shroud. He is holding a short staff in his left hand and wears the white crown of Upper Egypt, which is fronted by a uraeus (a protecting cobra). The false beard has incised details and chin straps are also depicted. Insertion tang on base. Nice custom stand. Size: 8-1/4"H with tang.
Provenance: Ex-Dr. Charles Smithen collection, Palm Beach, FL, acquired prior to 1990.
