Greece, Hellenistic Period, Ca 3rd century BCE. Unusual terracotta plaque featuring Medusa - complete with her slithering hair. After her death, Medusa was considered and evil-averting device - and a plaque such as this might have been placed outside ones home to keep evil at bay. Two suspension holes at top. Size: 3" W x 2-1/2" H.
Provenance: Ex-private A. Attal collection via descent from great uncle - before 1950.
