Description
In fact, as the brass panda coins of 1983 and 1984 were not sold well, China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation didn't plan to make copper pandas of 1985 at all. This coin was not listed in 2004 Standard Catalog of World Coins. Then how does this coin appear? In fact, 1985 copper panda coin was never issued. At that time, Shanghai Mint was negotiating with a Canada company, and in May, they signed a contract in Beijing. To celebrate this cooperation, Shanghai Mint re-used the dies of 1984 brass panda and made a new die of the obverse of 1985 brass panda. Only few coins were made, some presented to the foreign guests, and some presented to the central leadership who were visiting Shanghai Mint at that time. The 1985 brass panda coin was sealed in a green cardboard and was hard to keep well, most of them have black spots and were seriously oxidated. The number of 1985 brass panda coins are few and its price already reached RMB 100000 in 2010. In a 2012 China Spring sale, a raw coin sold for USD 46,000 (RMB 287,500). The coin offered here is in better preservation than that example, a good opportunity to obtain this rarity.
