Description
Circa 1920, nephrite jade of a mottled green color with diamond and black enameled hinges of deco form. Provenance: purchased from the family of William Graves Sharp (US ambassador to France, 1914-1919); thence to present owner. 3-1/4 x 2-1/8 in.
Condition
The jade appears to be in good condition, though there are some very small flakes along the front edge of the opening. The areas of faceted jet black enameling has some flakes on the edges, particularly on the back hinges (there is a small flake on the front hinge as well). There is grit in the fittings between the diamonds.... it does not appear to have ever been cleaned. The interior of the left hinge appears to be missing soldered nuts. Refer to photographs of item.
