Since the Impressionism, artists were inspired by the hustle and bustle on the streets of Paris. The Paris-based painter Léon Zeytline (1885-1962) devoted himself almost exclusively to the impressive buildings and elegant inhabitants of this beloved city. As a witness of the Belle Époque with its diverse art and cultural scene, the Russian drew an untroubled image of the Parisian bourgeoisie on the lit boulevards, at the cafés, the cabarets, the galleries, the concert halls and the salons that gave the period its ‘shiny’ name.

The painting is in good condition, showing some minor abrasion of the paint. The canvas is slightly corrugated to the upper and lower left. There is a fine diagonal craquelure within the lettering upper right. Inspection under UV light reveals a major area of retouching to the center right. The size of the painting is 74 x 98 cm.
