Since the Impressionism, artists were inspired by the hustle and bustle on the streets of Paris. The Paris-based Russian painter Léon Zeytline (1885-1962) devoted himself almost exclusively to the imposing buildings and elegant inhabitants of this beloved city. The present painting titled ‘En Attendant le Fiacre’ [Waiting for the Hackney Cab] gives and impressive insight into the Parisian live at the turn of the century, which delights with the impressionist brushwork and the atmospheric lightning.


Condition:

The painting is in very good condition, showing only minor framing marks. The size of the painting is 65 x 100 cm, and the frame measures 85 x 118 cm.


Léon Zeytline (1885-1962)

The Russian painter Léon Zeytline moved from Moscow to Paris at the early 20th century. He is recorded for his numerous Parisian street scenes, including the ‘Avenue de l'Opera’ and ‘Les Champs Elysées’. His multi-figured and detailed scenes are vivid portraits of the Parisian life during the Belle Époque. (cko)
