Description
English, 19th century. George II style mahogany and parcel gilt decorated wall mirror with split swan neck pediment centered with floral filled urn over a frieze centred by a cartouche, with egg and dart projecting molding and a beveled mirror plate within molded surround flanked by foliate pendants, the shaped base enclosing a shell flanking foliage. The backside with old label "Edwards and Roberts Upholstery Warehouse, Wardour Street, London." Height 56.5", width 29.25". Note: Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved importing, retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. _x000D_
