“Les Memoires de Messire Philippe de Comines,” written by French historian Denis Godefroy, centers on Philippe de Comines (1447-1511), a writer and diplomat in the Burgundy and French courts. Comines has been called the first truly modern writer and critical historian since classical times. The book was published by L’Imprimerie Royale in Paris in 1649 and contains an illustrated title page with an etching of a fleur-de-lis. This edition is a very good example of royal printing and binding.
There is some wear to the binding and evidence of repairs and recasing. Otherwise, the book is in good condition.
