(She is) deeply sunken in dreams and the peonies fall in love with her.
In her dream she is playing with Qilin. Zhuo Wenjun has just lost her husband, but she looks even more beautiful.
The water continues to flow and it is so sad how the clouds hang [above] Xiangyun.
Condition:
The work is in good condition with light wear. The mounting shows a few creases. The sheet with a few tiny scattered. The frame shows wear. The framed work measures 146.5 x 50 cm and the image size is approx. 108.6 cm x 32.2 cm.
CHEN Shaomei (1909-1954)
CHEN Shaomei was a painter and an important artist from Hengshan, Hunan province. At the age of 17 he was already established as a painter in the local art scene. CHEN Shaomei experimented with various techniques, which were not previously common in Chinese painting. Thus, his works show a mixture of color and space, characterized by movement as well as veiled landscape sceneries and an interplay between people and nature.
