Signed by the authors and Shackleton on half title. The volume was written by Murray and Marston, two members of Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition (British Antarctic Expedition). "The Great Southern Journey" that started in 1908 reached a new Farthest South, only 112 miles from the South Pole. They also discovered the approximate location of the South Magnetic Pole. "For the first time an unofficial, and therefore more human document, is presented to the public (...) I would advise anyone who wants to get to the kernel of the life of a Polar explorer to read the book" (Shackleton - introduction). Very scarce copy, essential for any Antarctic collection.
