This fine drawing room ensemble in Boulle style consists of a sofa, three chairs, a bureau and a coffee table. The pieces of furniture are – according to the Boulle Style – fully covered in marquetry from different materials (mainly mother of pearl and brass) and finished with a French polish. All pieces have turned baluster legs. The back rests of the seating furniture and the top piece of the small secretary are adorned with a delicately carved cresting and marquetry. Next to the marquetry, the unusual shape of the secretary that contrasts light and heavy elements attracts the attention.



The elegant drawing room has recently been restored and is in very good condition. The seating furniture has been newly upholstered and covered.

The dimensions of the bureau are: 108 cm broad; 142 cm high; 57 cm deep

The coffee table measures: 48 cm broad; 80 cm high; 74 cm deep

The dimensions of the sofa are: 140 cm broad; 41 cm seating height; 96 cm high; 60 cm deep

The dimensions of the chairs are: 47 cm broad; seating height 46 cm; 95 cm high; 45 cm deep



Boulle Stil

Pieces of furniture and objets d’art that are decorated in the Boulle-marquetry technique are called Boulle Style furniture. The style and the technique are named after the French Ébeniste André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732) who perfected the technique of marquetry. The main feature of the Boulle marquetry is the massed use of tortoise shell, brass and tin that are pasted as a veneer onto the furniture’s surface. The metal parts have often been engraved.
