A brightly colored painting on laid paper depicting a monarch in profile on horseback, holding a sword and wearing the Order of the Garter sash and breast star and with the coastline in the background. Inscribed within a slightly raised cartouche along the lower margin “Den 12 January 1796” Two full watermarks of “J.HONIG & ZOONEN” and with Fleur-de-lis above J H & Z. Image size 15.3 inches x 11.25 inches (39cm x 28.5cm). Sheet size 19.5 inches x 15 inches (the sides folded under) 49.5cm x 38cm. Unframed.

Little Norway Museum, Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. While the offered lot came from the Little Norway Museum, it is possible that the painting is Norwegian but this is not certain.
