NOBILE UMBERTO: (1885-1978) Italian Aeronautical Engineer and Arctic Explorer, remembered for designing and piloting the airship Norge, the first to fly across the polar ice cap from Europe to America. A.L.S., Umberto Nobile, one page, 8vo, Rome, 19th Octber 1926, to Mr. Quattrini, in Italian. Nobile informs his correspondent `I read your book, and while reading it I have revived those memorable flying days. What you have achieved is a living and pulsating photograph of all that happened on board, and I couldn´t have wished a more accurate diary.´ A letter of good association. Some light overall staining and a few small pinholes at the head, G. £150-200.
