JOAO V OF PORTUGAL: (1689-1750) King of Portugal 1706-50, known as "the Magnificent" or "the Sun King", Joao V raised the prestige of Portugal amongst European courts. L.S., El Rey, one page, folio, Lisbonne, 19th April 1738, to King Charles of the Two Sicilies, in Portuguese. Joao V referring to the news received, responds to his correspondent and states `It is with great joy that I receive any good new regarding Your Majesty, but now much more increased with the new that Your Majesty reports to me, having married Royal Princess Maria Amalia of Poland. For such a right marriage I send to you my congratulations..´. With paper seal, partially detached, affixed to the address leaf. Two small holes corresponding to the removal of the seal, one partially affecting the beginning of the signature. Upper edge and corners with small creasing. G. £150-200
