Late 19th century , 66 x 62 cm, Central Asia, Uzbekistan

Collection VOK: Suzani 2, 51

A small square silk embroidery on a black wool foundation. The design consists of six large circular flowers with serrated outlines, interspersed with fan-shaped leaves and with two smaller circular flowers arranged above them. The design is open at the top and appears unfinished. This part of the field used to be covered by a triangular flap. The type is known as "ilgich". Textiles of this kind served as ornamental covers and were attached to the fronts of undecorated storage bags suspended from the sides of the Lakai nomad tents. – Good condition.
