This print by Danish artist and CoBra founding member Asgar Jorn was created in 1958. It shows a dynamic, yet abstract composition in red, green and black on white ground. Jorns work is closely related to the informal art and varies between figurative and abstract painting.
The work is signed and dated on the lower left in pencil with ‘Jorn 58’ as well as numbered in pencil with ‘6/50’. The dry stamp ‘Edition van de Loo’ is visible in the lower left hand corner. The colour lithograph is in very good condition with only minimal marginal blemishes. The frame shows slight signs of wear and the overall dimensions are 73 x 53 cm. The sheet size is 60 x 43 cm.
Asger Jorn (1914-1973)
Danish painter Asgar Jorn was born 1914 in Vejrum, Jutland. In 1929 Jor n took privat lessons in painting by Martin Kaalund-Jørgensen. He moved to Paris in 1936 to studie at the Fernand Légers Académie Contemporaine. He was also co-founder of the artist group CoBrA and participated at the Documenta II (1959) and Documenta III (1964) in Kassel. He is considered the ‘Picasso of the North’.
