Olivier Mosset (b. 1944)

The Swiss artist Olivier Mosset is a well-known representative of the Concrete Art movement. He discovered his fascination for minimalism at the age of twenty, when he went to Paris and became a member of the ’BMPT’ art group, along with the artists Daniel Buren (born 1938), Michiel Parmentier (1938-2000) and Niele Toroni (born 1937). In 1967, he met Robert Ryman (born 1930) in New York, who identified with the movements of monochrome painting, minimalism and conceptual art. Mosset’s first solo exhibition was held at the Galerie Rive Droite in Paris, in 1968. Between 1977 and 1996, Mosset had a studio in New York. In 1990, he was appointed to represent Switzerland at the Venice Biennale. He also worked as a teacher at the école supérieure d’art visuel (ESAV) at Geneva. The artist lives and works in Tucson, Arizona, since 1996. Examples of his works are located at the Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich.
