Description
Islamic, Seljuk, ca. 10th-12th century CE. Clay molded oil lamp with geometric design relief and turquoise hued glaze characteristic of the Persian artisans. Used more than a thousand years ago, this lamp would have produced light for the ancients for a period of time using an oil-based fuel source. This example certainly conjures up images and stories of genies. Just rub the lamp and perhaps you will be granted three wishes! Size: 5-1/4"L x 2-1/4"H.
