The sculpture of Mercury by Giambologna is one of his most famous works and known worldwide
The present bronze sculpture is the work of an artist active in the 19th/20th century. It depicts Mercury after the beautiful sculpture by Giambologna, today exhibited in the Louvre. The figure appears stretched up high in the air, while it stands on a column of air coming from the mouth of Zephyr, creating an illusion of floating. The black veined marble base bears a bronze relief with dancing putti in the center.
Condition:
The sculpture is in age-appropriate condition. One wing of the hut is missing and the right hand forefinger is bent to the side. The left hand may have carried a rod, as it is known from the original. The marble base shows some light marks with small losses of material. The overall height of the sculpture is 87 cm.
