Very good condition

In 1975, the French art magazine ‘XXe Siècle’ published as a hommage to its founder Gualtieri di San Lazzaro the portfolio ‘San Lazzaro et ses Amis’. It comprised 9 works by various artists and was issued in a book edition of 575 copies and a separate suite of 75 + 50 artist proofs

The lithograph is in very good condition. The image measures 32 x 25.5 cm, the sheet is 35.2 x 26.3 cm.

Hans Hartung (1904-1989)

Hans Heinrich Ernst Hartung was born in 1904 in Leipzig. He worked as a painter and graphic artist. As early as a teenager he turned to the non-objective painting. In 1924, he began studying art history and philosophy at the University of Leipzig. After his time on Menorca and in Paris, he received the French citizenship in 1946. Hartung became one of the most important representatives of the informal art of the post war period. He exhibited several times at the documenta and at the Venice Biennale in 1960. Hartung's works often recall to Chinese kalligraphy. (fea)
