Per Kirkeby (born 1938)
Per Kirkeby was born 1938 in Copenhagen in Denmark. Initially, Kirkeby graduated with a PhD in geology. At the beginning of the 1970s, Kirkeby was inspired by the informal art movement and turned away from the Pop Art. He was involved in the happenings of the 1960s and worked with Joseph Beuys, Henning Christiansen, Nam June Paik and Charlotte Moorman. From 1978 on, he worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe; in 1989 he became a professor at the Städel School in Frankfurt, where he taught until 2000. Per Kirkeby received several awards for his work and exhibited his work internationally. He took part in the Biennale in Venice and several times at the documenta in Kassel. (fea)
