In March 1966, in the middle of the largest barren plain in the world, two large meteorites were discovered near the Mundrabilla outpost. Smaller meteorites were subsequently recovered. Mundrabilla is one of the oldest known meteorites on Earth. Science informs us that this sample is from a meteorite which struck Earth more than 1,000,000 years ago. Featured in the otherworldly nickel-iron matrix of this partial slice are inclusions of graphite, sulfides and silicates. The piece measures 1.9 x 1.9 x 0.1 in. (height x width x depth) and weighs 0.1 pounds.
