Description
A very unusual hippo hide cane. Made entirely of hippo hide probably fashioned in two fused pieces over a metal base, it has a crook handle that measures about 6" along the arc and is 2/3" thick. It terminates with a 1 1/3" worn brass & iron ferrule. The overall length is 34 1/2" and the general condition is good with discoloration and surface rubbing to the finish. It was found in the Zimbabwe region of Africa and it appears to have been made around 1900. It is a piece that can evoke much discussion because of its rarity, and it is part of the eclectic collection of George & Carol Milne. Estimate: $500-$700.
