Description
A very nice pewter cane from the 1892 GAR convention in Washington D.C. The pewter knob handle, with traces of gold gilding, is 2 1/2" high and 1 1/2" at its widest. The top is engraved with a very fine image of General/President U. S. Grant in his Union uniform. On one side of the handle, the large GAR emblem is depicted while on the opposite side, a ribbon is engraved: "Annual Encampment G.A.R. Sep. 20, 1892, Washington D. C." The shaft is dark lined hardwood with a 1" replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 33 2/3" and the condition is very good. It is a very good example of historical Civil War memorabilia in unusually fine condition. Estimate: $850-$1250.
