George Washington Inaugural Button “GW” at Center with “LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT” Major Type in Copper
(1789) George Washington Inaugural Button, “GW” in Block Letters at Center within an Oval, with “LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT” Major Type, DeWitt 1789-8. Copper. Lacking shank, Very Fine.
34 mm. Coat or Jacket Size. This original George Washington Inaugural Button is the major type featuring a central “GW” within an oval at center, the text legend, “LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT” surrounding the top portion. Rich, natural chestnut-brown surfaces to the face, with some greenish patina to the back surfaces. The sharpness of the design elements reveals the main features of this highly popular Inaugural Button quite clearly. The original shank has broken off from use. Here is a pleasing, fully genuine example of the scarce George Washington Inaugural Button major type that will look very nice on display.
