Newcomb College art pottery vase, c. 1901, decorated by Selina Elizabeth Bres Gregory, bottle neck form with turquoise and green glaze, incised NC cipher, JM (Joseph Meyer) potter, SEBG maker and F date mark to base, crazing and chip to lip, approx 4.5"h, .75lbs *Provenance: By inheritance and within the family of Selina Elizabeth Bres Gregory (American, 1870-1953), sculptor and early decorator of Newcomb College pottery and Angela Gregory (New Orleans, 1903-1990), a noted American sculptor and professor of art. Gregory graduated from Newcomb College, New Orleans in 1925, studied at Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts in Paris. She studied stone sculpturing with Antoine Bourdelle in Paris and her work was exhibited in 1928. Returning to New Orleans, she was commissioned to produce a number of sculptures including the Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville monument and eventually was a professor and sculptor-in-residence for two decades at St. Mary’s Dominican College.
