Description
An American sterling silver three handled presentation loving cup. Engraved front reading: Presented to Hon. George Donworth, Retiring President, By Members of the Rainier Club (Seattle, WA) Oct. 17 -1915. Embossed and chased handles with a scrolling leaf motif. Measures 10" high, 6" diameter at the opening and 9.5" wide from handle to handle. The underside stamped Sterling 196. Weighs 33.75 troy oz.
NOTE: George Donworth (1861-1947), United States Judge. In 1909 Donworth was nominated by President William H. Taft to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He served until 1912, then returned to private practice in Seattle from 1912 to 1918, when he entered the United States Army, serving until 1922. He thereafter remained in private practice in Seattle from 1922 until his death.
