James Braidwood, founded one of the first municipal fire service in Edinburgh in 1824 and his book represents a comprehensive guide to the construction of fire fighting equipment and the training of officers within the increasingly organized fire services of 19th century Britain. It seems to have been the first book on the construction of fire engines.

Tape remnants to cover; one stamp from 'Gloucerstershire Country Library', multiple stamps from 'Cheltenham Public Library', together with a barcode and mounted note on front free endpaper, offsetting, a few pen notes and scattered foxing; very good.
