Harper's code "F-C" on copyright page. Inscribed by Grey in his usual purple ink on front flyleaf: "To my protogés Clair and Phil with love from Zane Grey." Dated August 1929, Altadena. Claire is Claire Wilhelm, cousin of Zane's wife Lina Roth, and sister of Lillian Wilhelm who illustrated several of Zane's fishing books. An original snapshot photograph of the sisters is laid in. One of a small number of copies thus bound for Grey's personal use. Bruns G-177.
