Description
A collection of miser's purses, mainly 1800-1840, approx 24 including a miniature doll's examples, one of green silk with steel and glass bead bands and note stating that it was of 'sentimental value'; others with gilt metal or cut steel rings, some composed entirely of beadwork or patterned knitted silk; and a miniature reticule for a doll or small coin (qty) Provenance: the late Harry Matthews
Condition
Carved mother of pearl one has holes in the mesh. Beadwork one is good condition. 11 of the purses with steel beads, tassels and closure rings have corrosion to various degrees. One ivory silk mesh purse with steel beads is good condition. Little miniature doll’s purse has wear to silk mesh. Doll’s reticule has corrosion to the frame. Remaining 8 with gilt metal hardware are generally good condition. Embroidered red wool example has small stains and small moth holes. Long beige one has holes in the mesh. 2 are lacking gilt rings.
