GEORGE OYSTON (BRITISH, 1861-1937) LANDSCAPE PAINTING, watercolor on artist board, a beautifully nostalgic scene from the English countryside, featuring a mother and young daughter in front of a country estate. Signed "George Oyston" lower left and inscribed " At Pullinham (?) / Surrey" verso. Late 19th/early 20th century. 17 1/2" x 12 1/2" object.
Provenance: From an Alexandria, VA private collection.
Catalogue Note: George Oyston (1861-1937) was born in North Shields, England. From an early age, he gained recognition for his sketches in oil and watercolor of scenes around his home town. He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Society of British Artists during his lifetime. The present example is typical of his work and features the landscape of one of his favorite regions, Surrey.
