Good Condition
Offered is an Venetian school oil painting with the representation of ‘Mater dolorosa’, or else the sorrowful mother of god. Since the 15th century the sorrowful mother is illustrated with one or seven swords in the chest in the traditional folk art, referring to the prophecy of Simeon related to The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple from the Gospel of Luke.
The painting is in good condition with normal signs of wear consistent with its age. The canvas is laid down on panel, the surface slightly crazed and varnished. Light framing traces on the edges. Otherwise overall good condition. Image size: 31.5 x 27 cm. Overall dimensions framed: 43 x 38 cm. The frame shows slight signs of use. (cru)
