The present nine watercolors were created by the German genre painter Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann. The nine paintings show different, always idyllic motifs in the delicate coloring which is so characteristic for Jakob Dielmann. Small scale images with children, grandmothers and Schwälmer costumes were a popular subject of the artist. The identically matted and framed watercolors make a charming collection of his oeuvre.

All watercolors are signed on the lower left or on the lower right ‘J. F. Dielmann’. Two paintings are dated ‘75’ and ‘1881’. The works are mounted at spots under mat. They are overall in good condition with the usual traces of age, such as slight mat-staining and age-related browning of the paper. One frame is damaged. The dimensions of the framed watercolors measure between 10.8 and 21.1 cm and between 14.5 and 15.5 cm in the width.

Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann (1809-1885)

Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann son of a gardener, studied after his apprenticeship as lithographer in Frankfurt at the Städelschen Kunstinstitut and at the Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie. As artists he preferred the genre scenes and landscapes of the Rhine-Main region, as well as Hesse. After 1841 he joins the Willingshäuser Malerkolonie. There, he created numerous genre paintings that illustrated the village idyll and the traditional Schwälmer costumes. Dielmann was also co-founder of the Kronberger Malerkolonie in 1858. (bed)
