Commissioned by the seller's grandfather while teaching at an Indian school in Montana, the sitter is shown looking at the viewer, watercolor on paper, signed lower right E. S. Paxson 1914, original frame with original bubbled glass, 10" wide by 12 1/2" tall, framed dimensions are 14" wide by 16 1/2" tall. The Indian man has feathers behind his right shoulder, large necklace and earring in his left ear. The condition is so close to mint it almost would appear to be new but the owner and provenance will be given to the buyer. The artist was a good friend of Charles Russell, was well known for the large painting of Custers Last Stand and native American Indian portraits. His paintings are in major western museums.
