Description

Moskva salyutuet doblestnoi Krasnoi Armii! [Moscow Salutes the Valiant Red Army!], a poster by Boris Lukin (1913-?, Meritorious Art Worker of the RSFSR). Published by OGIZ-Ivanovo Region, Ivanovo , 1943. 83 x 54 cm.

Our first guess was that this poster marks the XXVI anniversary of the Red Army (February 1944), but the publication date suggests that it was produced for the festivities surrounding the celebration of the 26th anniversary of October Revolution (Nov. 1943).

Boris Lukin was a highly regarded Ivanovo artist and pedagogue. Several articles about war-time poster production in Ivanovo mention his name, along with those of Ivan Kolochkov, and of the Moscow artist Mark Abramov (his Ivanovo period posters were published under the MOA pseudonym; a few were offered in our April 2014 sale). His graphic series “People of Ivanovo during WWII” was featured at the 2010 art exhibition organized in Ivanovo to mark the 65th anniversary of the Victory.
