Description
Pre-Columbian, Gulf coast of Mexico, Vera Cruz, Remojadas, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A young standing boy with arms extended upward at his sides, one hand open, the other holding a small rattle, possibly a gourd. He smiles widely exposing his teeth, his face with almond shaped eyes, the tall head cover featuring a stair stepped Chac or temple glyph and a curling plume in relief. His waist is covered with a short skirt featuring another pair of stair stepped temple designs, the center with a feathered serpent head with a beak. Such glyphs as on this statue show the close ties between the Maya and Veracruz cultures. Quite an impressive example! Includes custom stand. Size: 12-1/2"H (32 cm).
