Description
A gorgeous Faliscan black-figure phiale from the Vine-Phialai Group, c. 330 - 300 BC, a mesomphalos, decorated with interlacing vine leaves and dotted grape bunches around the central omphalos. D: 8 ½ in (21.7cm). An outstanding example of this classic Greek offering bowl seen held in the hand of various gods in statuary and on the back of coins. Cf. Similar phiale (Oxford 1925.670), J.
