Description
Neolithic, 4th-2nd millennium BC. A fully bifacial, tapered side axehead of excellent workmanship with convex cutting edge, formed in a translucent black flint; all edges very finely knapped. Cf. Adkins & Jackson, Neolithic Stone and Flint Axes from the River Thames, BM Occasional Paper 1, 1978, number 242 (for the form). 126 grams, 13.5cm (5 1/4"). Property of an Essex gentleman; formerly in a private collection, acquired by descent 1970s; found Suffolk, 1950s.
Condition
Very fine condition, slightly chipped to one side edge in antiquity.
