Middle Palaeolithic, 300,000-30,000 BP. A finely knapped hand axe with twist in cross-section; the flint grey in colour with black border and cream lower body; old inked accession details to one face 'Rickso[n's pit] / occup.[ation] / in 4/3 / 111 3x'. Cf. Evans, J. The Ancient Stone Implements, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain, London, 1897, item 1.10. 195 grams, 10cm (4"). Ex Edwards collection, Nottingham, UK; previously in the Dewey collection; found Ricksons Pit, Swanscombe, UK.
