Description
Central Europe, 5th century BC. A matched set of bronze fittings for a cavalry sword comprising: three bronze sleeves, each with reinforced mouths, median openwork panels of triangles, bands of ring-and-dot ornament, open to the reverse; a similar fitting with reinforced upper band, two lateral lugs, flared plaque with V-shaped voids, upper disc with central hole and raised rim, all with ring-and-dot ornament. 434 grams total, 39cm overall (15 1/4"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s. [4]
